Nowgong Girls’ College is a premiere institution of higher education for women in central Assam . It has been continuing its glorious journey since 12th September 1962. Established as Nowgong Women’s College, this institution was later named as Lal Chand Todi Girls’ College and finally in 1968 it was renamed as Nowgong Girls’ College. It has travelled a long way imparting higher education to the aspiring girls students of Nagaon and adjoining districts. The college is affiliated to Gauhati University and is included under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.The college owes its existence to the inspired pioneering works and foresightedness of its prime mover and guiding spirit Late Mahesh Chandra Dev Goswami (1917-1989), the founder principal and eminent educationist of Assam . Since its inception, the college has flourished under the competent administra足 tion and able leadership of the following Principals: Late Mahesh Chandra Dev Goswami (1962-80), Late Dr.Ratna Kanta Barua (1982-84), Sri BimalKumar Bora ( 1984-97), Sri Apurba Sarma ( 1997-2002)and Dr.Ajanta Dutta Bordoloi (2004- 2015)

Nowgong Girls’ College is located in the district of Nagaon in Central Assam. The district is on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River between latitudes 25°45´ to 26°45´ North and longitudes 91°50´ and 93°20´ East. It is bounded by Sonitpur and the Brahmaputra to the North, West Karbi Anglong & Hojai to the South, East Karbi Anglong and Golaghat to the East and Morigaon to the West. The district is an educational hub owing to the presence of four NAAC accredited A Grade colleges along with many other government and private institutes of excellence.
