Bar Council of India under the Advocates Act, 1961, read with BCI Rules:
The statutory powers and functions of BCI conferred through the Advocates Act, 1961 as well as BCI Rules are two-fold;

Firstly, to monitor the legal education centers functioning throughout the country and the students enrolled in them, inter alia, to determine curriculum standards, infrastructure standards, number and qualifications of faculty, accreditation of legal education centers (law schools) /College) based on the standards set by BCI and;

Secondly, to prescribe uniform qualifications for the admission of persons to become advocates and to further regulate the admission of advocates and their conduct in the profession by laying down standards of professional conduct and etiquette for advocates.
